A bell is a good alarm, timer or calendar reminder on an iPhone or an Android phone. Its ring carries into the next room and sounds pleasant there. Bell and Message Landed ring long. Desk Bell is one quick strike.

Shaping a bell

What makes a bell sound like a bell?

A bell needs notes that do not line up, plus a strike. Bell has a sine at 1,760 Hz and a triangle at 3,970 Hz, a little off the octave. That clash sounds like metal. A noise layer 15 milliseconds long is the clapper, and two seconds of Ring out is the hum.

How do I make a bigger, deeper bell?

Lower the Pitch of every layer by the same amount. A layer moved alone changes the clash. Then raise Ring out, and switch the effect from Reverb to Chamber for a larger room.

How does the school bell keep ringing?

School Bell repeats each note four times with a Gap of 0.02 seconds. Flutter shakes the level like a hammer on metal. Raise Times for a longer ring, or lower Flutter for a smoother one.
